About the Project
The Herald is premier in every way. As DC’s first hospitality-infused office property it catches your eye from the onset. With its lovely landscaping, inviting patio, and gorgeous 10’ wood doors it beckons you to immerse yourself in its rich history and prestige. A custom tile inlay in the foyer displays Marx Realty’s reimagined logo and acts as a subtle reminder of the building’s illustrious past as the home of The Washington Times-Herald’s printing presses.
The breathtaking lobby with 22’ coffered ceilings and a plethora of high-end details highlight the intricate collaboration between DFS, Studios Architecture and the Marx Realty team. The custom built-in vapor fireplace beneath the Jackie O gallery wall act as boutique features in the esteemed Bouvier Club. The unique oak floor design detail pairs perfectly with the plaster columns which are adorned with integrated custom brass light fixtures. The luxurious velvet seating nook with matching green plaster surround is another example of the thoughtful design elements that define the space. A mirrored glass backsplash above the sprawling bar area provides a modern play on the natural light that encompasses the lounge, while the walnut paneling, brass shelving, and newspaper racks show homage to the past. The impressive two-story glass and metal feature wall is reminiscent of a linotype machine and blends beautifully with the antique linotype machine that’s on display.
Leather-wrapped door pulls lead you into the boardroom which showcases a custom 30-person table, intricate crown and base moldings and a bespoke carpet inlay. The creative Jackie O wall-covering ties the boardroom to the Bouvier Club in a purposeful way. The team carried the same careful pairing of old and new through the Press fitness center as well. Key features of the fitness center include walnut paneling and commemorative displays of historic sports artifacts as well as an eclectic mix of traditional and novel fitness equipment. Individual fitness rooms offer the ultimate privacy and promote overall wellness with inspiring sports artwork. The vintage inspired sports club features state of the art locker rooms that are equipped for the modern DC businessperson.
From its prime location to its signature details there’s no denying that The Herald is one of a kind. We are honored to have been a part of bringing such a historic site for politics, intrigue, glamour and influence back to life with the help of Studios Architecture and Marx Realty.
