About the Project
Kaplan’s new educational office location in Washington D.C. includes a large reception area backed with administrative offices, a student lounge, prayer rooms, and classrooms, which line the perimeter of the building. This project posed a unique set of challenges that DFS was able to blend into opportunities throughout the construction of the space. Kaplan required the structural infill of a stairwell; upon further investigation, it was discovered the design would not work. DFS was able to work closely with the original structural engineers to come up with an alternative solution. The project team members (owner and architect) were based out of state, which required a number of work arounds to coordinate meetings, walkthroughs, and other job site related functions. Despite all of these obstacles, DFS finished on time and within budget.
