With over 29 separate trades involved in the construction of this unique facility, coordination drove the projects successful delivery in advance of its completion date. The space features three key areas: The reception and gallery space, the high security offices, and the new auditorium with supporting amenities. Japanese elements of stone and wood are demonstrated through the flooring, millwork light boxes, reception desk and screens.
This entrance carries the visitor through to the gallery space where the solid drywall ceilings, and custom lighting provide a sharp contrast to the more intimate auditorium beyond. The finishes in these areas (fabric wall coverings, patterned glass, cast concrete stairs, stainless steel railings, fabric covered STC rated doors, lighting and wood flooring.) create added dimensions and elevate the eye to the raised auditorium entrance. The auditorium itself is built up on concrete, steel sheeting and block to allow for a ramped viewing of the stage. Despite the increased deck height of the space being located on the first floor, the above ceiling systems had to be coordinated and installed early in the project to allow for the necessary ceiling heights once the floor elevations were raised. Off of the entrance are the offices for the users of the facility, these offices were constructed to SCIF standards with wire mesh in the framing, blast resistant vision lites, and increased door security hardware, all effectively concealed by their applied finishes, connecting them to the public space.
