About the Project
This compact project located in the heart of Chinatown capitalized on the inherent character and elements of the building within which it was located. The use of reclaimed barn wood at the elevator walls, paneled millwork at the reception desk and pantry, the barn style doors and the punched transfer grills emphasizes the historic nature of the building. Through the use of glass and lighting, a modern edge was provided to the space. As a 50% wood structure space, and 50% newer concrete addition, the project required a design build approach to address each of the unique conditions and elements. The stair and metal railings were added to the space to provide an extended sight line to the main workstation area, and access.
