The Office of Orthopedic Medicine and Surgery project is located at 1015 18th Street in Northwest Washington, DC. This was a LEED certified two-story buildout encompassing just under 20,000 square feet. The project began late in July 2018 with demolition of the existing space and continued until substantial completion on November 30th, 2018. This project was completed in conjunction with SmithGroup Architects and Normandy Real Estate Partners.
Along with the usual procedures present in any construction project, there were additional steps involved in the construction of this space due to the nature of a medical facility. Lead lined drywall and glass were required in the X-ray rooms and surrounding areas to dissipate the harmful radiation from the X-rays. There is also a custom Rulon ceiling in the 4th floor physical therapy area. This created challenges with the custom lighting package, existing acoustical ceiling, and the curtain track to separate the patient areas. These criteria demanded exceptional attention to detail. Diligent work was required from the entire project team to ensure that the project came to a successful conclusion.
