About the Project

When we started the interior tenant layout of this first generation space on the 8th & 9th floors, the curtain wall was still being built. Effective communication played a crucial role involving DFS, the building, and all collaborating companies, including the base building GC, to meticulously orchestrate the integration of all components.

The renovated American Trucking Association building showcases a remarkable array of features. It boasts a spacious conferencing center equipped with multiple operable partitions and a media wall that comprises nine communicating TVs, providing a versatile and immersive meeting space. Adding to its allure is a brand new communicating stairway, elegantly starting from the 8th floor and rising to the 9th floor, featuring concrete treads and laminated glass inserts, beautifully accentuated by a sleek black steel railing. On the 9th floor, a purpose-built studio awaits, designed specifically for podcast episodes. This state-of-the-art studio incorporates a kinetic floor, fabric panels, and an STC rated door and window, skillfully separating the studio from the control room to ensure optimal sound quality. In addition, a fully functional commercial catering kitchen, complete with an exhaust hood, gas range, combination oven, and other stainless steel appliances, has been thoughtfully installed. The project involved the strategic placement of oversized materials, some of which were carefully craned onto the rooftop to cater to the needs of the commercial catering kitchen. On the 8th floor, a spacious staff pantry beckons, featuring an oversized island and banquette booths. This area required meticulous coordination among multiple trades to ensure seamless integration of their respective finishes. With a generous expanse of 7,300 square feet, the reception and staff pantry areas showcase stunning stained and sealed concrete. The meticulous installation of multiple decorative metal ceilings in the reception area, as well as above the 9th floor stair opening, necessitated several coordination meetings with electricians, sprinkler subcontractors, and drywall subcontractors to ensure precise layout and adherence to the design requirements. Finally, an inviting exterior terrace awaits, embellished with integrated planters and light fixtures, creating a harmonious connection with the staff pantry while providing a picturesque view of Southeast DC.
